Agreement on route of ring trambus between Heizel and Brussels Airport
The local authorities of Vilvoorde, Machelen and Grimbergen and the Government of Flanders have reached agreement on the route of the trambus on the ring connection.
The trambus is the forerunner to the ring tram and will be operating from 2019 between Heizel and Brussels Airport; it will offer in the short term a comfortable alternative for the car and help alleviate tailbacks on the Brussels Ring. Commuters will not have to wait for the tram rails to be laid before they can travel to and from Brussels Airport. The trambus is more flexible and will, as much as possible, operate in its own lane, which must ensure a fast and reliable service.
The trambus will, in the North Perimeter of Brussels, run along Machelen, Vilvoorde and Grimbergen to Heizel. There is clarity about the route and the design principles for the roads now. Info-markets will be held from September in the three municipalities concerned. In this way, those living in the vicinity will be able to see the route in detail and discover how the trambus will use their street.
Brussels Airport is very pleased with the introduction of the ring trambus. It forms an important link in providing a better accessibility of the airport by public transport and contributes to more sustainable mobility to and from Brussels Airport.
